"You
have to learn how to crawl before you can walk. You have to learn how
to walk before you can run. You have to learn how to run to win the
race."
Hello! My name is Matthew Nix. I have
been married to my lovely wife, Joanna, for five years and we live in
Collinsville, IL, a suburb of St. Louis, MO. Some people consider my
work an art, others call it a craft. Still others think it’s just
something I do late at night when I can’t sleep. Either way, I make
pendants that are unique and unusual.
I began making jewelry by accident. I wish I could say it was all
planned—but who really plans this kind of thing in life? Some things
just evolve and grow, and end up taking on their own life. My
grandmother used to make brooches and hatpins with fried marbles. I
thought they would make great pendants, and started making them and
selling them in my spare time. These became very popular and I quickly
began to sell them to stores worldwide.
Later on, I became interested in wire
wrapping. Wire wrapping is my main passion when it comes to pendant
making. After a while I began to experiment with other types of media
including polymer clay and fused glass. I also do photo transfers on
several mediums. I dabble in mixed media applications as well. I like
to combine different techniques and different mediums to create truly
unique designs.
After years of hard work, I was able to
commit Create-a-Pendant full-time. I'm proud of the fact I started
with nothing and built a successful business doing something I enjoy.
Besides designing jewelry, I enjoy
teaching my craft. I am now offering kits, tutorials, and DVDs that
pass the joy of my craft on to others. I occasionally offer local
classes and have found it to be a very rewarding experience in several
aspects. I also participate in a few different craft shows throughout
the year.
Please feel free to look around my site
and view my work and products. My website is a testimony of my desire
to create and teach others.
